This piece, published in Genealogies of Modernity, is based on a conversation with Michael Maciel on Pier Paolo Pasolini's 1964 film The Gospel According to St. Matthew. Michael and I met over Zoom to share our thoughts on the ways the renowned Italian filmmaker presented a new, modern image of Jesus that broke cinematic stereotypes.
